My idea is similar to a Real Housewives show, but centered around the characters of Camelot. Normally, one of these shows is revolved around just the women of the families, while the men are more of an afterthought. However, for my project, I would want to focus on both the men and women having them both be the main subjects of the show. This would be a "reality" show but it would be scripted in the sense that the actors would be playing the roles of Guinevere, Lancelot, King Arthur, Mordred, Merlin, and Sir Gawain. Each one of the main characters would sit in for interviews like the women on Real Housewives do. In addition, there would be some random moments of surprise characters depending on what was going on in that episode. The "vacations" that they would take would be like the quest that they would have gone on together. This would allow for the King Arthurian tales to still live on. I think that it would be pretty entertaining as trashy reality tv.
I think your idea is great and I think it would be entertaining to see the tales through vacations. I also like how you are focusing it on both the men and women in the family, I know there would be so much drama unfolding.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shawn that the drama in the original stories will lend itself well to this kind of format. I've never seen any of the "Real Housewives" shows because it's just not my cup of tea, but I think the faux-reality format is in perfect step with the over-the-top faux reality of the original medieval tales. We have often treated these stories as history rather than fiction, so why not keep up that metaphor here?
ReplyDeleteI do think you'll have to examine your title though; if it's not focused just on the women, maybe "Real Lords and Ladies of Camelot" or something? (I am bad at titles.) What's the narrative arc that you are hoping to use as your basic plot? Will you have Arthur and Guinevere as a happily-married couple and then have Lancelot swoop in and muck it up? What about the other characters?
I look forward to seeing your project, Grace!
I think this idea is really good. I also like how you are focusing on both the men and women. I think that the vacations aspect is really cool. When there were to be a vacation would it just focus on those characters, or would it flash back and forth to the characters that remained? When the characters interact with each other would it be just like it is in the stories, or would it be changed to fit modern times?
ReplyDeleteI think that in general it would be a modern version of the stories and thats how the vacations would fit in. The vacations in general would focus on the characters that would be involved, but it might flash back to the ones that would still be at home just to add to the drama.
