Getting to Know Morgaine

Honestly, I kind of enjoyed the new version of the King Arthur tale. I liked reading this from Morgaines eyes and learning her inner monolog. In everything else we've had with her in it, I feel like she comes off as a little un-personable and cold. We don't really know her inner motive at all, so I really enjoyed getting to know her emotions and feelings on certain things, it really helps us understand why she does what she does. The other character that was interesting to me is Galahad or Lancelot. I thought it was interesting that he was being offered the training of a Druid with all of these magical powers, and he turns it down because he's now seen the world and its problems, and wants to do something about it. I feel like that adds a lot of depth to his character and gives us a little bit more of an understanding of him, rather then him just being a knight who has an affair with the Queen and breaks a lot of peoples hearts. Plus honestly, Lancelot with a druids training and a knights training probably would have been very powerful and he still wants to leave Avalon and fight, so I though that was pretty cool.

  1. I think you would honestly really enjoy this book - there's so much about it that jives with your interests! And I agree that the idea of Lancelot being kind of the product of both of these worlds with two really different kinds of strength is really awesome.

    1. Right!!! I would really love to see a text or book or even a short story where Lancelot embraces both sides of his heritage, just to see how powerful he could be. I also felt he was a little bit more logical in this text then in previous texts, which I felt like could be interesting, particularly if he gains power.

  2. I agree with what you said. For example, I would rather read through the characters eyes rather then a third party because it allows you to not only see what the character is going through but to also be able to put yourself in that situation.

    1. My feeling exactly. I feel like when we read through a third person point of view, particularly with these older texts, we don't really have a grasp as to why the characters are acting this way. Life was obviously different at this time and while we can try to empathise with their motive, unless their inner thoughts are laid out for us, we would never really know why they're doing what they're doing.

  3. I also agree that it is very nice reading the story though someones perspective. I touched on this in my response, as it is nice to see the human side of Morgaine. IT becomes much more relatable and intriguing.

  4. Not only with Morgaine, but Lancelot as well. We learn about their "mom" what they were like as children...etc. This story is so much different than the other stories we read because of the detail it goes into within the heads of the narrators.
