Arthur: War of the Round Tables

My idea for the final project is to turn what we know about the Arthurian legend, and make it into a mobile app that can be played by everyone in the world.  In this game, you will be introduced as the leader of your own round table, while being guided through a tutorial by King Arthur himself.  You will be in charge of your own kingdom, but you're not alone in this world.  There will be many potential enemies or allies out there, whom also lead their own round table and kingdom.  The goal of this game is to grow to be the biggest and strongest kingdom in the world, while also keeping the people in your kingdom happy.  Make allies, slaughter your enemies, grow and become the greatest leader in the entire world.  The end goal is to become the leader of the "Capital" which is known as Camelot, which will give you many extra bonuses over your competitors.  I guess you could think of this as merging the worlds of King Arthur and Game of Thrones...without the dragons.

You can build your army of townspeople and upgrade them into better units, but the knights of your round table will be your "heroes".  These heroes come with much more strength and abilities to help you have an edge over your opponents.  Every weekend, their will be a tournament held in the capital that allows leaders from around the world to compete for game changing prizes that will put you ahead of your competition, so practice those jousting skills.

The game would be called "Arthur: War of the Round Tables"

  1. This sounds kind of similar to Clash of Clans and the farm games (were your build your own farms). You could use their success when trying to write your business proposal! Sounds like a fun game!

  2. Nice idea, Derek! As Grace says, you have some analogues that you can draw on to help emphasize why your game will be successful. You could even draw on some board games that have been adapted into successful apps like Carcasonne and Catan. I'm not much of a gamer but this does sound like it could be fun. What's the style of animation you're going to go with, and do you have an app company in mind to pitch this to?

I look forward to seeing your project!

  3. This is a great video game idea Derek! I like when you said, "Make allies, slaughter your enemies, grow and become the greatest leader in the entire world," it fits very well with Arthurian tales. I could even see this out as a real video game today.

  4. Cool idea! Maybe in some sort of game mode you could explore a quest as a different knight (i.e. Lancelot in Knight of the Cart or Gawain in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight), that way you could build up the strength of your knights, too! Overall, great idea. Sounds like you could actually make this!

  6. I really like the creativity of this idea. This game could help inform people as to the tale of King Arthur. I remember as a kid there were games I played that taught me real world knowledge, so this would be great in spreading the story!
