G'day ladies and gents!
Did you know Arthur was an Aboriginal Australian?
My idea sparked (no pun intended) from the wildfires that devastated Australia this past summer (southern hemisphere summer). People across the continent contributed their time, skills, and resources to fight the fires and save people, animals, and wildlife. And guess what? Arthur was among them.
I'm pitching a documentary to BBC to follow Arthur as he becomes a director of disaster relief and organizes the members of his First Responders Round Table to send them out on various tasks throughout the country to help those in need. The focus is on his background as a member of the Aboriginal community and the traits of chivalry he passes on to the Round Table. These Round Table members exhibit key traits of Arthurian legend including kindness, determination, and humility.
Ok it never even crossed my mind to do a documentary style project. It is genius! I really like how you connected it to recent/current events. The only thing I am wondering is would it be an actor playing Arthur or is Arthur a "real" person? If that makes any sense.
ReplyDeleteAs you know, I'm all for this idea. I think Caroline's question is a good one: is this meant to be a real documentary or is it a faux documentary, where you use the story of Arthur to shed light on important real-world issues? Personally I think the second one would be a bit more effective (you can really teach the lessons you want that way because you can manipulate fiction to meet your own ends) but I can possibly see the first one working too.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your project, Esther!
To answer both of you, I didn't really think about that, but I saw it as historical fiction while I was working on the project. So I guess it's open to interpretation. Did this really happen or is it just a story?
ReplyDeleteWhich, I just realized, is part of Arthurian legend. There are some ways Arthur might have been a real person, but then stories that are obviously fiction. So this idea would fit into that aspect of Arthur legends too.
