King Arthur Film Reaction
From what I saw of the film, it seemed to be a lot more dull than what the trailer suggested. It felt as though the filmmakers were trying to make King Arthur more interesting by adding a level of edge and maturity to it in a way that happens to look very similar its fantasy contemporaries at the time. The film is very melodramatic, and everyone talks as if everything they say is highly important rather than having anyone talk like a human being. Beyond just technical aspects of the film that I found annoying, what really struck me the most was Arthur's over centralization in the film. It is portrayed as if he is the most important character in this story. I am assuming that the filmmakers decided on this change because they needed a main character to guide the audience through the story, however, it is not historically accurate from my understanding based on the documents I have read. I would have liked it a lot more if Arthur was a more interesting or a more mysterious character in this film, which would have been easy since nobody knows if he even existed. However, in this film he just seems like...some guy. This was clearly a film made to satisfy audiences rather than telling a compelling story based on what we know about King Arthur. This is not necessarily a bad film, I just do not feel anything justifies its existence. This film just seems like a generic action film that capitalizes on tropes seen in other movies to sell itself.
