This Was Hilarious

Captain America: Man Out of Time Digital Comics - Comics by ...

"You...could tell us...but you won't? Were you a Don or something?"
"No, no,  I've always been an Arthur." (p. 173)

I have to be honest: Knight Life was a breath of fresh air. It was easier to read and understand. And both the situation and the writing were so awkward that it was funny. I was actually laughing out loud at certain events in the excerpt. The reason why I chose this quote is because it is an example of the strange hilarity of this book. Arthur reminds me so much of Captain America when he has to figure out how to live in 2012 while mentally he's still in the 1940s. He's a man who has come to "save the world" so to speak, but is so far removed from the current day, that he has a hard time operating in society. Arthur is the exact same way, but worse because he's coming from an age where knights were still a thing. This feeling of being out of place is reflected in the writing style. The book might not have been the best written thing, but boy was it funny to read.

  1. I agree with what you said so much! I enjoyed reading Knight Life because it was so different from what we have read. It was very enjoyable and I loved how Arthur just said things so bluntly. It was for sure very funny to read. Seeing Arthur try to live in a modern time was just hilarious!

  2. Yup, there are plenty of fun moments to balance out the "cringe-worthy" ones for sure!

  3. I can see how you compared Captain America with this Arthur that you see in our readings for this week. I also compared him to the Green Arrow (DC Comic... I know!). This Arthur definitely has some of those "secret superhero" qualities given that he is secretly the medieval king we know him to be.

  4. I agree with you I thought that it was cool to see these characters in a different light. I thought it was so funny to see Arthur try to convince people that the is a good leader which is so unlike how he has been conducting himself in the stories we read.

  5. I think this line was a little goofy in my opinion. I get that he doesn't understand current lingo, but i also feel like this scenario is so played out: "oh this thing! hahah" "what?" "hahah". idk if that makes sense, but i guess what im trying to say is that i feel like Ive seen a quote similar to this in so many things. That being said though, i agree that this reading was a breath of fresh air.

  6. I thought the story was good and I agree funny as well. I like your comparison of Arthur and Captain America. Captain America was pretty much alone in the future but it was nice to see that Arthur still had companions like Gwen or Merlin with him even though Merlin is a kid. He wasn't completely alone or lost.
