reason the the madness

"Were it well to obey then, if a king demand
An act unprofitable, against himself?
The King is sick, and knows not what he does."

This is from the scene where Sir Bedivere was given the order by Arthur to throw the sword, this quote is showing why he wasn't throwing the sword, he realizes Arthur is not thinking straight and believes not throwing it would be best.

  1. ... but is Bedivere right? And even if he's right, is it right for him to disobey his king? What do y'all think?

  2. I find his act of disobedience frustrating; he should listen to his King and trust his judgment, especially under those circumstances.

  3. I think that is a very hard decision for everyone because some people would keep the sword because they know that the sword is ancient and magical and they also know that Arthur is not going to make it through the night. With that being said they also do not know if they will need the sword at a later time since they will not have Arthur.

  4. I actually thought the same thing that you did. That Bedivere's intentions was to make sure that Arthur wasn't losing his mind at his deathbed and that Bedivere wasn't going to make a mistake by obeying his king. Luckily it was a good thing that eventually Bedivere obeyed Arthur and threw the sword, but Bedivere's reluctance wasn't necessarily a bad thing. If anything, it proves that he's able to think for himself and wishes the best for his king as well as for other people.
